Allora Cup third meeting in region to gain TAB status

THE Allora Cup will take on greater prominence next year following the decision of Racing Queensland to allocate TAB status to the January 31 meeting.

The meeting will be the third in the 2014-2015 Warwick racing season with TAB status.

The Allora Cup will be run for a second year at Allman Park and there will be a guaranteed six races due to the TAB status.

Warwick Turf Club president Phil Grant said this year's Allora Cup meeting was a great success.

"They had a calcutta at Allora on the night before the cup," Grant said.

"Glyn Rees has organised the race day sponsorship from the Allora area."

TAB status means each race has a minimum $10,000 prize money which attracts many horses from the metropolitan area.

The club had a Sunday TAB meeting last month and the second TAB meeting for the year on Boxing Day.

Grant said he was hoping the club could have three TAB meetings each year.

"A TAB meeting showcases the Warwick racecourse to a national audience," he said.

"Punters from all around Australia are able to bet on our TAB meetings. More revenue should come back to the club from a TAB meeting."
