Our Laura to host Will and Kate on Queensland visit
ALLORA export and netball royalty Firebirds' Laura Geitz will play host to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Kate Middleton, when they visit Queensland later this month.
The Firebirds defender was already on the invite list for the Royals reception in Brisbane on April 19, but the honour was extended further when Queensland Premier Campbell Newman asked her to host the official function.
"I was so excited to even be invited to attend the official function so when I got the phone call to be the MC for the event, I couldn't believe it," Laura Geitz said.
"I can't wait to meet some of the people that have been invited to the reception, let alone hopefully have the opportunity to talk with the Duke and Duchess," she said.
Their Royal Highnesses reception hosted by The Governor of Queensland and The Premier of Queensland will be held at the Brisbane Convention and Entertainment Centre, the home playing venue of the Mission Queensland Firebirds.
Still reeling from the biggest Firebirds loss this season, going down to the Melbourne Vixens on Monday night 38-50, Geitz was still able to muster enthusiasm for the once in a lifetime opportunity and said the royal meeting will come just one day before the team next plays at home against the NSW Swifts.
"The Royal reception is being held at our home playing venue and so far this season we haven't had a win at home, so I might ask Kate to stay and cheer us on," she said.
"We play the NSW Swifts on Easter Sunday, the day after, so hopefully the royal touch might be just what we need to grab a win at home."
In the meantime she will turn some of her attention to what everyone will want to know.
What will she wear?
"'I don't know yet, the dress code is smart casual but I have a few weeks to think about it and obviously stress about it,'' she said.
"The invitation has outlined some protocols so while I will be mostly focused on the team returning to form I will have to give some thought to all things royal."
