Editorial: Allora girlrises to takelead role inCatholic order

Editorial:  A NUN raised in the small community of Allora has reached great heights within her church with her appointment as congregational leader of the Catholic order founded by Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop.

Sister Monica Cavanagh will head up the Sisters of Saint Joseph of the Sacred heart - Josephites.

The order was founded in 1866 by Sister Mary MacKillop and Father Julian Woods.

Sr Cavanagh is the 15th congregational leader in the role performed by then Mary MacKillop.

She grew up as the third of ten children of Ned and Ilma Cavanagh on their dairy farm at Berat.

She attended Masses at St Patrick's Church and the parish school during her education.

The small community was suitably moved at the appointment and presented Sr Cavanagh with a framed photo of St Patrick's Church, Allora.

Professed as a Sister of St Joseph in the Allora Church in 1973, Sr Cavanagh has gone on to become a teacher and faith educator and facilitator.

She played a major role in preparations for the canonisation of Mary MacKillop.

She will join her home parish in March next year when she helps St Patrick's School celebrate its centenary year.
