Best in business awarded at event
ALLORA Heavy Mechanical took out the esteemed Heritage Bank Business Excellence Award at a prestigious function on Saturday night.
Business royalty flooded into King's Theatre for the annual event, which this year was vamped up with a jungle theme.
Fire throwers and the African drum and dance group Baalo Baajo kept guests entertained throughout the evening.
Former Chamber of Commerce president John Randall was the MC for the evening.
Allora Heavy Mechanical owners Steve Hannon and Sue Austin not only took out the top prize but were also awarded the TAFE people development award for their commitment to training.
Mr Hannon said he was "numb" after taking out the Business Excellence Award.
"We weren't expecting this at all but we thought we would do well in our other categories," he said.
The Allora couple said they worked hard to keep their customers happy and continually sought out feedback on how they could improve their service.
Mr Hannon said he welcomed both positive and negative feedback and used both to develop his business.
"It is nice to have positive feedback but it's what you do with the negative feedback that makes you stand out above the rest," he said.
Mr Hannon and Ms Austin said their commitment to training apprentices was ongoing.
"We are putting some new apprentices on next year and will continue to grow and develop our business.
"It's really about a focus on continuing to improve our business."
Heritage Bank manager Jennyfer Bourzali said it was fantastic to see so many people in attendance to support the nominees.
"It is really good to see such great community spirit and such a good turnout," she said.
"I think people are really supportive of the awards because it's all about honouring members of the community."
