Allora School turns 150

A 150-year milestone is coming up in Allora, and you're invited to join the celebrations.

Staff and P&C members at Allora P-10 State School are preparing to commemorate a century and a half of the school in April.

Past student and teacher Robyn Draper said plans were already coming along for two days of celebratory events to be held in conjunction with the Allora Autumn Festival.

"Acknowledging the history of the school is very important for us and we've known since the 125th anniversary we'd want to do something for 150 years," Ms Draper said.

"I have been a teacher here for 25 years now and attended the school myself.

"There are plenty of other families who have a really longstanding relationship with the school.

"We have a few things in the pipeline but we just want to get the word out for past students who may want to return for the celebrations."

Ms Draper said events would kick off on Friday, April 28 with a program of old-fashioned games on the oval and a bush dance.

The next day a camp oven lunch will be served up, along with the cutting of a cake and tours of the school throughout the day.

"We'll also have the official opening of the Joyce Gibson Centre Garden, named for a long-serving preschool teacher who first came to the school in the 70s," Ms Draper said.

"We will also be unveiling an honour board of our past principals and school captains.

"A few of our teacher aides and members of the community are also collating a book of recipes, so we're asking people who have a connection to the school to submit their recipes and anecdotes.

"We're also hoping to have a photo book with a collection of things that have gone at the school and have a historical interest.

"Anyone is welcome to email through their contributions or drop them off at the school."

Celebrations for the 150th anniversary of Allora P-10 State School will be held on campus on Friday and Saturday, April 28 and 29.
