Allora Show: Bigger than ever in 2018
THE best little town on the Downs will come alive this weekend as the annual Allora Show rolls into town.
Always a highlight on the calendar, Allora Show Society president Conrad Schnitzerling said this year'sshow was set to be massive.
"It's definitely the biggest weekend for us at the Allora Show Society,” he said.
"And it's continually going ahead in leaps and bounds.
"The show and exhibits and entertainment gets bigger and so do the crowds.
"We've been working on this show probably since before the 2017 show even started, it's non-stop.”
Show highlights are plentiful but Mr Schnitzerling said there were a few events to look out for.
"Firstly there's the massive dog show, it's actually three shows across the weekend,” he said.
"Allora Dog Show is a nationally acclaimed show, one of the best in Australia.
"Our show and grounds are the envy of a lot of other dog shows around the country.”
Mr Schnitzerling said the Aussie FMX Motocross event was a must-see as well.
"This year we are very proud to have these guys performing at 6.30pm and 9.30pm on Saturday,” he said.
"The team features local lad Tyler Wakeford and other top Australian riders.
"The crowd is going to see these bikes turn upside down while flying 75m into the air.”
Yet another feature will be the bull ride.
"This is the first year for that - it's our very own bull ride and we're very excited about it,” Mr Schnitzerling said.
"It's going to be huge and I know the community here loves some good rodeo action, so we're very excited to be bringing this event in 2018.”
Mr Schnitzerling said the Allora Show Society was able to survive and thrive thanks to the enormous popularity of the showgrounds.
"We're booked out almost every weekend,” he said.
"We have at least four campdrafts each year and many other horse-orientated events.
"It's just been constant.
"As well there's a steady stream of caravan clubs that head out this way for the beauty of the scenery and quite pace of the Southern Downs.
"2018 is almost booked out and we're even starting to see bookings for 2019.
"It's great for us and the town and it enables us to keep going.”
If he were to meet someone on the street who'd never been to the Allora Show before, Mr Schnitzerling said he'd tell them it was the greatest event.
"You'll meet a lot of wonderful people,” he said.
"The whole family will have a lot of fun and a really great time.
"It's a wonderful way to spend a weekend and to show off our town and our entire region.”
