Allora to meet over Grainx noise, dust
RESIDENTS of Allora are invited to attend an open meeting to discuss the ongoing complaints about the operations of Grainx.
Locals have made complaints to the council regarding the noise and dust arising from the company's site.
Grainx opened in Allora in 2011 and has since caused significant issues for the town's residents.
Residents have previously told APN about the levels of dust getting into homes and water.
Director of the Darling Downs Public Health Unit Dr Penny Hutchinson said there were ways to filter the dust from the water.
"If they use a filter on their rainwater, which they should already, it should help remove the dust," she said.
Owner Chris Hood has also previously stated that he tried to keep his operating hours between the normal work hours of residents.
The Southern Downs Regional Council will hold an open meeting at the Allora Community Hall on August 10 at 3pm.
Mayor Peter Blundell said the council understood the issues Allora residents had with the Grainx operations.
"All residents in Allora are welcome to attend this open community meeting, and we will have councillors and council staff on hand to respond to residents' questions and concerns," Cr Blundell said.
Councillor Glyn Rees said he hoped the council, the community and Grainx could work together to reach an acceptable solution.
"I firmly believe that Allora and any rural community needs industry to support economic growth, which leads to growing the community that may lead to jobs and other benefits," he said.
"However, such industry needs to comply with necessary requirements so as not to interfere with the community life style.
