Walking, talking Dalek takes to Darling Downs streets

IN Doctor Who they are one of the most feared races in the universe, but Allora's Dalek is happy to live in peace.

Dalek Ky was created by Allora man and Doctor Who fan Fraser Clark who also runs the local Doctor Who group. Mr Clark recently took his Dalek out to the streets of Allora to test out its new wheels, seeing the local sights in the main street, park and even doing daily tasks like shopping and visiting the ATM.

"It was just for a bit of fun really. The reaction you get from people varies. Most people know what it is because it is such a recognisable character from Doctor Who and others think it's from Star Wars and still want a photo with it," he said.

"I started building it in 2013 in September and gradually added bits to it in my spare time, so it took about two years."

The Dalek needs a person inside to operate, with a modified electric wheelchair to move around.

It also features a voice modifier, so it really sounds like a Dalek.

"People think it's amazing when it speaks back to them," he said.

"You often get people going down the road and they have to do a u-turn and come back."

While Mr Fraser only has one Dalek at the moment, he hasn't ruled out creating his own Dalek army in the future.

He has been watching Doctor Who as long as he can remember and is thrilled he can share his love of it with his town with residents coming to say hi to Dalek Ky.
