Allora’s golden girl to receive keys to region
SOUTHERN Downs sweetheart Laura Geitz will finally take hold of the keys to the region this weekend, after knee surgery delayed the event.
The ceremony was originally scheduled for earlier this month but will now take place at the Allora Sports Museum at 2pm tomorrow.
The gold medallist and former Allora girl said she was on the mend and was eager for the weekend's celebrations.
"The surgery was successful and my recovery is going well - I'll be ready to play our first game next year in March," she said.
"As most people know I come home to Allora regularly to see my family and am really looking forward to the celebration day. This will be a great honour and an opportunity to meet Southern Downs people. I'm keen to talk to young netballers and their families.
"I'll bring some merchandise for people to purchase and I'll be donating $2 from every sale to the Allora Sports Museum. I'll also be happy to sign netballs or other items that people bring along on the day."
The Southern Downs Regional Council will host an afternoon tea at the Commercial Hotel, across from the museum.
There will also be a sausage sizzle next to the hotel for those who want to stay for the afternoon.
Councillor Glyn Rees urged people to tour the sports museum, which honours the town's sporting legends.
