Politch breaks hurdles record
AMANDA Politch was the toast of Warwick State High School on Friday after breaking a 100-metre hurdles record which has stood for 34 years.
Politch ran 17.09 seconds to beat the previous record of R. Bradford.
A long jump record previously held by Australian Paralympic athlete Carlee Beattie was bettered by Politch, who made it two records for the day.
Politch leapt 5.04 metres to beat the 4.89m of Beattie.
Leanne Brown set a new record of eight minutes, 31.4 seconds, in the 15 years and under 1500m walk.
Ty Gardner set a new mark of 13.46m, in the 14 years shot put, bettering the previous record by almost one metre.
Billy Sullivan beat a 15 years shot put record set in 2005 by current Warwick Cowboys rugby league centre Dennis Bohm. The new mark is 13.39m.
Football and futsal star Matthew Carey won the boys 1500m to take one of the other two individual trophies awarded on the day.
Shandell Doro, of Hamilton House, scored 95 of the Hamilton points to be judged outstanding athlete of the carnival.
Hamilton House was outstanding in individual and relay events to win both trophies from Leslie House with Barnes in third place.

Age championship runners-up: 17 years and over Tom Garton and Amanda Politch.

15 years: Callum Miller/Joel Eddiehausen (joint) and Leanne Brown.
14 years: Tim Collins and Tegan Bailey.
13 years and under: Brent Walker and Allira Charles.
- 17 years and over: Matthew Carey 77 points and Steph O'Brien 73.
- 16 years: Mark Steketee 70 and Carissa Wrigley 61.
- 15 years: Billy Sullivan 82 and Denby Watt 66.
- 14 years: Ty Gardner 70 and Shandell Doro 95.
