Ambo made right choice first
THEY say the average Australian changes career path two to three times in their lifetime, but it seems Greg Hardy chose the right one from the outset.
Mr Hardy will celebrate 20 years as officer in charge at the Warwick Ambulance Station next month.
"It's a bit exciting, bit of a milestone," he said.
But Warwick wasn't the first port of call for this paramedic.
Joining the Ambulance service in 1975, Mr Hardy started out at Mt Garnet in far north Queensland before moving down to Innisfail.
"I've been on the road since 1984," he said.
"We (he and his wife) left Innisfail in 1985 with two babies and headed to Central Queensland.
"We stayed in Maura for two years, then went to Mt Larcom for two years, then Toogoolawah for two years."
From Toogoolawah Mr Hardy and his family headed to Warwick and they've been here ever since.
"When the Queensland Ambulance Service was formed in 1991, we all had to reapply for positions and I was lucky enough to get a great place like Warwick," Mr Hardy said.
So what's kept this gypsy in the Rose City all these years?
"I think it must be the Condamine River water," he joked.
"The station is a good size here and it's a great place to bring up kids."
This everyday hero spends his days saving lives and serving the community and said he wouldn't have it any other way.
"I just love the job and what we are doing is so rewarding," Mr Hardy said.
"I think the (highlight has been the) advancement of the station.
"We got a new station in 2007 and when I came we had nine staff members, now we have 20."
Mr Hardy said he wasn't planning on moving on anytime soon.
"I think I will see my time out in Warwick."
