Warwick's paramedic heroes rewarded in Ambulance Week

AS part of Ambulance Week celebrations, an award ceremony was held in Brisbane to honour the hard working paramedics from across the state.

Two Warwick ambulance officers made the trip to the capital city to receive special service awards.

Troy Haley was honoured with a 15 year national medal and Merv Bray was given a 30 years long service medal.

Warwick officer-in-charge Jamie Taylor said they were good role models for the younger staff.

"It's good for the younger and the new staff who come through," he said.

"It gives them some reassurance that there is some knowledge and experience around.

"It's a hands-on job, so the more you see the more you know.

"In any occupation these days eight or 10 years seems to be a pretty long time.

"For the guys to stick it out in this type of demanding job is a testament to them both."

More than 80 honours were presented to staff and volunteers.

The Young Hero of the Year was Alex Gallen, from Dalby, who called 000 to get his mum urgent help when she was suffering a severe asthma attack.
