Teen wins showgirl 30 years after her mum
AMY Bradfield is over the moon about being crowned 2016 Warwick Showgirl.
She was crowned on Saturday night at the annual show ball at the Douglas Feez Pavilion. Amy backed up to win the highest fundraiser award after raising $3400.
Amy is the third member of her family to win a showgirl title.
Her mother Christine Bradfield (nee Dunn) won the showgirl award in 1986 and her sister Emily was last year's junior showgirl.
"It is special to win 30 years after Mum," Amy said.
"The show has been such a big part of my life. I have grown up with it and this was my chance to represent my show."
She was sponsored by the Warwick Show and Rodeo Society Ring Committee in this year's Warwick Showgirl.
Thirty years ago, Christine was sponsored by Downs Car and Truck, a business her father, the late Tom Dunn, was involved in.
Amy will do a lot of promotional work at the March 18-20 Warwick Show as well as possibly competing in showjumping.
"Being Showgirl will be my priority at the Warwick Show but I would like to compete in some events," she said.
"I usually compete on several horses in several classes at the show but will definitely cut back this year to give my showgirl role the respect it deserves."
Amy has been a prolific winner of ribbons on the show circuit and in showjumping contests around the nation.
She competed at the Millmerran Show yesterday and has already introduced herself to the Millmerran Showgirl Charlotte Ryman and 2015 Queensland Showgirl Michelle Mesner, of Goondiwindi. Amy will be part of the judging for Darling Downs Showgirl at the Toowoomba Royal Show in April.
"It will be exciting to catch up with all the girls in Toowoomba," she said.
"They are all Showgirls because we all want to promote our own shows."
Kaylene Schulz, who was sponsored by Warwick Friendly Society Pharmacies, was named Warwick Showgirl runner-up.
