Redbacks get an early mark for new AFL season
WITH the smell of rubbing liniment still in the air and the footy guernseys barely dry, the Warwick Credit Union Redbacks are about to hit the training track in preparation for the 2014 season.
This Thursday evening at 6pm all will be shown to the players as to what is expected of them to win a premiership flag in this competition.
Training will begin at a slower pace than normal and will build up as they go along, running out any lingering, niggling injuries from the previous season.
The incumbent coaching staff will be using this as a build-up to the Cardinal Cup, which will be played at Roddies Oval on the first weekend in March - March 1 and 2.
The off-season recruiting has been good to the club and the return of a number of players that had decided not to play in 2013 for numerous reasons is giving the team the depth it has been missing since its grand-final appearance in 2011.
This component of the game covered, and a new coaching admin structure to come into being, will give the players a more competitive outlook on their training and hopefully keep them at training.
The AFL Darling Downs is looking to expand its existing reserve-grade competition and this will open the door for more players to get game time.
The WCU Redbacks are hopeful of being part of this plan.
Anyone in any age group who wants to use the best facilities and be part of the most professionally run football club on the Downs should contact Colin Pope on 0412 156 099 or Jason Wright on 0409 499 352.
The WCU Redbacks will hold their AGM at Roddies Oval at 11am on Sunday, November 24.
All executive and committee positions will be vacated and nominations for these positions will have to be in to The Secretary, Warwick AFC Inc, PO Box 987, Warwick 4370, no later than close of business November 11.
No nominations will be taken from the floor unless that position is still vacant on the day.
Nomination forms can be obtained by contacting Yolande Cave on 0419 566 361 or 4661 7244.
