COMMENT: Animal volunteers need your help
LESLIE Park came alive this weekend for the first Warwick Uber Markets for the new year.
Since they began last year, the markets have grown in leaps and bounds to be among the best days out for Warwick families and this past weekend did not disappoint.
The animals were a big hit with families with the Southern Downs ARK volunteers continuing their great work trying to find new homes for unwanted pets.
During the holiday season thousands of animals across Australia go without a home and local pounds struggle to handle the huge influx.
Communities like Warwick need committed volunteers such as the Southern Downs ARK to help deal with this huge problem.
It seems that even though it happens every year people still don't realise a new pet is a commitment for years, not weeks.
To echo the words of ARK member Ann Simon, "an animal is not a Christmas gift" and if you are not prepared or don't have the proper facilities at home to properly look after it for life, then you need to reconsider before making that decision.
If you are prepared and set up for a new little family member then look into the pound or contact the Southern Downs ARK.
There are plenty of wonderful and friendly animals that are desperate for your love and a new home.
