Another milestone for Zara

SHE was the first Warwick Shire baby of the 21st Century, born 10 hours after the new millennium chimed in and, just more than a decade later, Zara Eather is preparing for her next big entrance.

This time it will be on the stage at Disneyland, California.

Zara is among the 29-strong troupe of Warwick-based dancers which will tour the Magic Kingdom and Hollywood in a few short months.

Zara, a Year 6 student at St Mary’s, studies ballet, jazz, acrobatics and contemporary dance.

She started dancing in 2005 and gave it away for a few years before taking up the sport again in 2009.

She loves the energy she expends when dancing.

“It’s awesome in every way and keeps me fit,” the 11-year-old said.

“I always learn something new every lesson.”

Zara, who also learns guitar, singing, piano and drama, rounds out her cultural education by spending time in the shed with her dad and going motorbike riding.

Her reaction to learning about the American trip can be summed up in three letters: “OMG”.

“I’ve never been out of Australia and never been on a plane so I have few butterflies in my tummy about going,” she said.

“I’ll probably freak out before I even get to the airport.”

Dancing in the parade during September is an experience she expects to remember for her lifetime.

When she grows up (if she doesn’t become famous), Zara would like to be a teacher, vet or a zookeeper.
