Anzac Test for Southern Downs league pair

RUGBY LEAGUE: Southern Downs pair Stephanie Hancock and Heather Ballinger are in the Australian Jillaroos women's team for the Anzac Test against New Zealand.

Hancock was national captain in 2015 and returns after missing the end of the last representative season due to injury.

She is originally from Killarney and was one of the first girls to play in the Warwick and District Junior Rugby League when she lined up for Eastern Suburbs.

Ballinger was in Warwick for her secondary education at Scots PGC College. Both starred in athletics on the Southern Downs with Hancock going on to win an Australian open javelin title.

The men's and women's Anzac Tests will be in Canberra on May 5.

There is plenty for Ballinger and Hancock to play for with the World Cup in Australia later this year and the final scheduled for Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.
