Bad luck haunts Kempson in race

MOTOCROSS DAN IMHOFF Quick pace: Glenn Kempson set his Warwick motocross team up for a solid weekend of racing only for a run of mishaps to

GLENN Kempson gave glimpses of his blistering form before a string of bad luck hampered the Warwick motocross rider at the weekend. Competing in the Toowoomba QB4 Kawasaki King of the Mountain, Kempson led race one only to have Australian Pro Lites Supercross champion Daniel Reardon snatch victory with three laps to go. ?The first race showed what the Warwick team was capable of and despite bad luck striking five times afterwards, we still set a good pace in the other races,? Kempson said. ?This gives us confidence coming into next weekend?s Queensland Supermoto Championships round at Stanthorpe.? The string of bad luck began when the enhanced two-stroke 500cc motorcycle was flooded moments before team-mate Andrew Williams was due to start race two. ?It is easy to do because of the modified ports,? Kempson said. ?We got a quad-racer to tow the bike to get it started and we got it going only to have the bike spit the sump plug and drop its oil on the start line.? The pair was forced to sit out the second qualifier, which meant they had to start from the back of the lemans. ?You start from where you finished your last race and we made it into the top 10 for race two only to be disqualified because I rode too aggressively,? he said. In the final race, the pair again started from the rear of the pack before Kempson drove hard to pass some of the best motorcycle racers in the country. ?I got as high as fourth, but unfortunately the race was stopped because officials felt the rain made it too dangerous,? he said. Kempson will next compete in the Queensland Supermoto Championships at Stanthorpe?s Carnel Raceway on December 10-11.
