Appeal to find thieves who attacked elderly residents
IPSWICH detectives are seeking the public's help in solving the case of a violent home invasion against two elderly residents.
An 86-year-old man and his 83-year-old sister were targeted in their family home at Macquarie St, Silkstone, between 6.45pm and 7pm on July 5.
Ipswich CIB plain clothes Senior Constable Teina Middleditch said the victims were assaulted and held against their will after hearing a noise under the house and opening the back door to investigate.
"The victims ... were rushed by three masked men wearing hooded jumpers," Snr Const Middleditch said.
"The offenders have forced their way into the home, pushing the elderly victims onto the ground and forcibly holding them against their will."
During the assault, the 86-year-old man had his walking stick snatched from his grasp and used as a weapon against him.
One of the offenders ransacked the home until he found the woman's handbag, which contained her and her brother's fortnightly pension money. The offenders escaped through the backyard, heading towards Blackstone Rd, where police suspect a vehicle may have been waiting for them.
"Police believe that this incident is linked to a sneak break and enter that occurred days earlier at the victims home, during which time the offenders have stolen a quantity of money that the female victim had withdrawn from the bank to use for medical bills and insurances," Snr Const Middleditch said.
Police are appealing for anyone with information that could assist the investigation to phone the Snr Const Middleditch at the CIB on 3917 1365. Information can also be passed on to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
