Arabic interest in Slade Campus
IT wasn't the most subtle of arrivals.
When a group of people – believed to be Middle Eastern – visited yesterday to inspect Slade School, much of Glennie Heights heard about it.
Arriving in a smart red chopper, the group touched down at Slade Oval around 2.15pm and was shown around the school for about an hour by council officers.
Their visit sparked a tip-off to the Daily News from onlookers.
While little detail has been released at this stage, the Daily News understands the group was inspecting Slade Campus to determine its suitability as a base for pilot training.
Slade School has attracted a long list of interested parties since its purchase by council in 2007, including another international flying group two years ago.
Flight Training Australia (FTA), which trains Chinese pilots in Australia, had set its sights on Slade in 2009 to house and teach theory to the pilots. These plans stalled mid-air after FTA was involved in a court brawl, where they were being sued for money allegedly owing to a second company, Gemair Pty Ltd.
Other expressions of interest have been from the Total Health and Education Foundation, which envisaged an Indian natural medicine university to form at the site.
The Anglican Church Grammar School sold Slade School in 2007 to the-then Warwick Shire Council for $3.65 million.
