Archery at Stanthorpe and you're invited
THE Granite Belt Bowmen was formed four decades ago and has moved to a new field archery range in the past three years.
Queensland Fire and Rescue Service Warwick station officer Dennis Burton has been president of the Granite Belt Bowmen for the past two years.
"I remember going to the range in Amosfield Rd as a kid and three years ago we moved to a new location at Speranza Lane, just behind Carnell Raceway,” he said.
"The club has forged three nationally accredited ranges in the past three years and we currently working on a fourth range.”
The Granite Belt Bowmen have 20 targets on each of their three ranges that are set in natural bushland settings with walking tracks interlinking all targets.
The targets are made from canvas banner material in colour with photographs of feral animals. Shooting distances from 5.4m to 48m depending on size of target.
Burton said the field archery at the Granite Belt Bowmen was shot in three age divisions.
"Cubs are up to age 13, juniors to age 17 and archers 18 and above are in the adult class and shoot longest distances,” he said.
There is also a traditional division.
