Around the world on a plate prepared by Warwick students
FLAVOURS of Ethiopia, Brazil and Korea are set to be served up by Warwick students as they prepare dishes to take dinner guests on a trip around the world.
The International Dinner to be held on Friday will not only showcase the skills Warwick Christian College Food Technology students have learnt, but revive the tradition of dinner parties.
Design and Technology teacher Chris Mason said the Year 9 and 10 students were able to choose a cuisine to cook, with some being inspired by their family background.
"It provides an opportunity to look at what is familiar in these countries and you can see there's a bit of familiarity in their culture and how different flavours can be used than what we would traditionally do,” Mr Mason said.
"The countries that are a bit more hot and spicy and we're a more traditional countries where it's a little more toned down with flavours.”
On the menu there will be baked cauliflower from Brazil, as well as Irish stew and bread and butter pudding.
Mr Mason said the dinner would help spark conversations between members of the school community.
"Our school is very family orientated so it's a way that families can come together and socialise and get to enjoy some food and relationship building between each other,” he said.
Running the food technology course for two years, Mr Mason said the students learnt fundamental skills including healthy eating, safe food handling and flavour matching.
"It gives them the practical outlet, rather than just sitting in the classroom they get to engage in something that's hands-on and interesting and beneficial for their lives,” he said.
The dinner costs $20 for adults, $15 for children and $60 for families.
