ICAC: Senator Arthur Sinodinos denies knowledge of donations

LIBERAL Senator Arthur Sinodinos has denied he knew about donations a company he was director of made to the New South Wales Liberal Party, while he was the party's treasurer.

Senator Sinodinos was the latest high-profile witness at the Independent Commission Against Corruption's inquiry into the dealing of Australian Water Holdings on Thursday.

The company has been at the centre of allegations involving potential corruption, and has been significantly linked to the family of former state Labor minister Eddie Obeid Snr.

The senator, who stepped aside from his position as Assistant Treasurer due to the inquiry, repeated a statement he made to the Senate during the hearings that he had no knowledge of the donations.

He told the inquiry he did not recall any such donations, and when pressed by counsel assisting Geoffrey Watson SC, Senator Sinodinos confirmed he denied such knowledge.

The inquiry is investigating claims AWH had billed Sydney Water for luxury travel, limousine rides and unusually high salaries for those at the firm.

Senator Sinodinos, who confirmed he accepted a $200,000 annual pay packet from AWH, told the inquiry he had taken no specific actions to reduce expenses at the firm during his tenure.

He also denied meeting with then-head of Sydney Water Dr Kerry Schott, where Dr Schott told the inquiry she warned him about the company he was keeping at the firm.

Dr Schott has provided evidence to the ICAC that the 2010 meeting did occur.

The inquiry continues.
