THIS time last year, teenager Ash Tatchell couldn't quite bring herself to lop off her locks but she has conquered the fear and is ready to shave for a cure.

Leukaemia has never touched the lives of anyone close to her but the teenager said she was compelled to try to make a difference.

"In 10 years time I want to be able to look back on it and know I did something to help," she said.

Although the thought of shaving her head is understandably daunting, Ash also has another great motivator - sticking it to the boys.

"Some guys I know have said they wouldn't shave their heads so I want to prove them wrong and show that I am tougher than the boys," she said.

"I just have to get over my fear, be brave and not be a wimp."

The Warwick Tennis Association has thrown its support behind Ash and will host a tennis fun day this Saturday to help rally support.

The event will run from 3pm until 5pm at the Lyons St courts and will have a sausage sizzle, bar and tennis on offer for all who attend.

Entry is free but the club encourages people to donate and help Ash reach her $1000 goal.

Those who can't attend but would like to sponsor Ash can do so by visiting leukaemia.org.au.
