Ashby re-launching bid to appeal Slipper judgment

JAMES Ashby will attempt to re-launch his failed sexual harassment case against former parliamentary speaker Peter Slipper in court on Thursday.

The former Slipper staffer and his lawyer Michael Harmer are appealing the scathing judgement handed down by Justice Steven Rares who found the proceedings were politically motivated and designed to destroy the speaker's reputation.

Mr Slipper, who represented himself for the bulk of last year's court battles, has since sought the services of lawyer Ian Neill.

In a directions hearing in the South Australian Federal Court last week, Mr Neil said Mr Slipper had "dithered" in his responsibilities to respond to the appeal and asked for extra time to prepare.

The next instalment has been set down for a two-day full court hearing in Sydney.
