Assumption and Gundy sports teams dominate challenge

IT WILL be the Assumption College and Goondiwindi State High School show today with both schools' netball and rugby league teams making the cut for the grand final in every division of the Anglo American Broncos Challenge.

The competition sees schools from around the region compete in five rounds, followed by today's finals.

All netball clashes will be played out at Barnes Park while the rugby league games will take place at Suburbs and Collegians' fields.

This year will be Assumption netball player Dimity Brackin's third year in the competition.

"We have won for the past two years," Brackin said.

"But Gundy are tough and they beat us by a bit when we played them earlier this year."

Assumption rugby league captain Ty Lockhart said his team was determined to do better than their third place finish last year.

Assumption sport co-ordinator Andrew Skipper said all the teams had been working hard this year.

"Gundy are never easy to beat in any sport, especially the girl's netball," he said.

However, Assumption and Gundy will not be the only teams on the fields and courts today.

Students from Killarney, Allora, Inglewood, Texas, Stanthorpe and Warwick will battle it out for third, fourth, fifth and sixth positions.

Presentations will then take place from 5.30pm at Suburbs rugby league grounds.
