Assumption in Confraternity Bowl rugby league final

SCHOOL SPORT: Assumption/St Joseph’s will play in tomorrow’s Confraternity Bowl final after beating Marist Emerald 22-6 in today’s semi final in Rockhampton.

In the final, Assumption/St Joseph’s will play St Columban’s Caboolture at 10.30am tomorrow in a live streamed game.

Hooker Sam Frattini was player of the match for the team from the Southern Downs today. Aden Howard, Tom Duggan, Mitch Watson and Cody Byrne scored tries and Tom Morris landed three goals.

Coach Bob Bell said the team performance was the best of the carnival so far.

“Defence won the game for us, Tom Duggan, Nick Van Der Poel and Cody Byrne were all strong in defence,” Bell said.

“The final will be the first time Assumption/St Joseph’s has played St Columban’s for more than a decade. They beat us in a final 11 years ago.

The Assumption netball team went down 38-35 to St Joseph’s, Toowoomba, in today’s qualifying final in Queensland Independent Secondary School Netball at Emmaus College, Rockhampton.

Coach Anna Hardy said her team could not have done any more to press their victory claims.

“We had minimal errors and some 50/50 calls went the other way but the girls played really well,” she said.

Assumption has won six of its first eight games so far in the championships in Rockhampton.
