SCHOOL SPORT: Assumption College will once again compete in the annual Confraternity Shield during the June/July holidays.

This year The Cathedral College, Rockhampton, will host the rugby league and netball carnivals.

The St Joseph’s/Assumption team will have 17 Assumption players this year and three from St Joseph’s at Stanthorpe.

So far this year the boys have played six games in the open rugby league competition with five wins.

Assumption official Bob Bell said the boys were working very well as a team and this was showing in their performances so far.

The team includes some representative players from the Warwick and District Junior Rugby League competition, some who have represented the South West Mustangs and Darling Downs schoolboys teams.

The Assumption/St Joseph’s team will play St John’s Roma, Marist Ashgrove (Brisbane) and St Michael’s (Merrimac, Brisbane) in the first three games then play a further three in the finals matches.

This year there are 48 teams in the rugby league competition.

Nine Assumption College girls will compete in a school team in the Queensland Independent Secondary Schools Netball (QISSN) competition.

The girls have been competing in the Warwick Netball Association A-grade completion since February and are vying for first with Hazzards and Doorslammers.

The team is working well and has had one trial match against St John’s Roma which they won.

The first two days of the netball competition will consist of pool matches against St Ursula’s College Yeppoon, Ryan Catholic College Townsville, Carmel College Thornlands, Trinity College Gold Coast, Downlands College Toowoomba, St Theresa’s Catholic College Noosaville and Mt Maria College Brisbane. This will determine what division the girls will play semi-finals and finals on the Thursday and Friday of carnival week.
