Assumption top in league with Broncos competition

RUGBY LEAGUE: There was a new joint sponsor with the Broncos and a new format but the enthusiasm of the players hasn't changed in two decades of rugby league and netball.

This year, Foxtel joined the Broncos as joint sponsors of competitions which were once played over six Wednesday afternoons.

Now the games are played on two full days by Year 7-10 students. Roy Nott organised the rugby league and Amelia Sutton was the netball co-ordinator.

Nott said the new format worked well with the first day for all players at Goondiwindi in May and then the second day including finals in Warwick.

"We will stick with the same two-day format for next year but have asked the schools for feedback before finalising next year's program,” Nott said.

"The new format means a lot of less travelling for schools like Goondiwindi.

"We are very grateful for the support of Goondiwindi State High School and sports clubs for the use of facilities at Goondiwindi.

"The school competitions again received great support from Eastern Suburbs and Collegians junior league clubs, the Warwick Netball Association, Jim Stevens and NRL development staff.”

The Brisbane Broncos were represented at the finals by Wayne Weekes from the club's development arm who presented all rugby league and netball trophies at the junior league fields.
