Asthma sufferers breathe easy in Warwick
EDUCATION staff from the Asthma Foundation of Queensland were in Warwick on Thursday to encourage residents to live well with asthma.
The team ran a workshop for asthma sufferers and conducted a session for hospital staff and teachers.
Educator Ashley Walton said it was important for sufferers to take their medication correctly.
"The three main things we hope people take away is to take their preventer every day, take their medications correctly with a spacer and how to do asthma first aid," she said.
"If people are having to use their blue puffer more than two times a week, they should be consulting their asthma action plan or going back to their doctor for a review."
Ms Walton also explained to sufferers the important role spacers played in treatment.
"When you use a puffer alone, you only get about 10 per cent into your lungs," she said.
"With a spacer, you get four times more and it gets further into where it's needed."
Asthma sufferer Karen Bray said the workshop was great.
"I really appreciated the information on how to use the spacer and medication properly - especially the one puff, four breaths tip," she said.
"It made me feel more confident to manage my asthma."
