Athletics for fun with a touch of coaching
COACH'S CORNER:
SARAH Jenner is one of the parents who helps out with coaching at Warwick Little Athletics Centre days from 3pm each Sunday at Hamilton Oval.
She has done one introduction to coaching course.
Jenner has been involved in little athletics for the past six years and five years on the committee.
She talks about her coaching philosophy: There is no expectation on the children as long as they are having fun and trying their best.
Nat Webb is head coach and between six and 10 parents have completed the introduction to coaching course and are able to guide the athletes.
Two parents are preparing to do their level 1 certificate which will be a boost for the centre.
All parents help out in some way at Little Athletics.
"My favourite events are hurdles and discus, both stand out for me.
"I liked hurdles when I was at school.
"The key to hurdling is just to glide over the hurdle rather than jump.
"We teach the little one where their legs should be when they go over a hurdle.
"With discus, it is important for throwers to rock on their legs and throw, not just stand and throw.”
Children 3 to 17 welcome any Sunday, Hamilton Oval, 3pm.
