Atmosphere still electric
ATMOSPHERE Band are fresh off their Australian tour with their Don't Lock Up Your Granny Rock and Roll show, but lead singer Doug Grice said their Friday night show at the Warwick RSL would not just be another stop on the road.
"I grew up in Warwick," Doug said.
"I went to Warwick East State School, but I haven't been back for 40 years."
Doug left Warwick when he was 13 years old, when his family moved to Brisbane.
But he still has many fond memories of the Rose City.
"I played on the Collegians football team," he said.
"I rode my first poddy calf at the Warwick Rodeo and I came off and broke my ankle."
Doug said it was his idea to bring the show to Warwick.
"I am really hoping that I will run into some old school friends; I haven't seen them in ages," he said.
"That is why I wanted to bring the show to Warwick."
Doug is just one of the four-member band, which also features Jim Ewart on bass, Steve Fisher as the lead guitarist and Paul Humphrey on drums.
"I have been involved in the music industry for 20 years, before that I was a songwriter," Doug said.
"I have spent a fair bit of time in Europe as well."
It was the music industry that led Doug to the rest of the band 15 years ago, which is a long time for a band to stick together.
Doug said the way to go about it was to put your ego in a box.
"We are professionals," he said.
"We treat our band like a marriage - we talk about everything and we don't have an ego.
"It is when people don't talk about things that their bands break-up.
"We put our egos in a box many years ago."
The band's Don't Lock Up Your Granny Rock and Roll show features rock and roll music from the '50s, '60s and '70s.
"The show is like a time capsule," Doug said.
"We get a lot of younger kids coming along who have never heard the music before and find they really enjoy it.
"The show has something to offer for people of all ages."
