Aussies primed to face heat

SATURDAY'S one-off Test against New Zealand in Townsville will have more at stake than just bragging rights.

Raiders forward David Shillington yesterday said coach Tim Sheens had told the players the match, plus next year's Anzac Test, would be dress rehearsals for the 2013 World Cup which kicks off in Cardiff on October 26.

"Tim has mentioned the World Cup to us already. This is a little bit of an audition and lead-in for that this game and the Anzac Test," Shillington said.

"Hopefully we can have some success now and keep the same sort of squad - and Tim as coach."

That carrot should ensure motivation is not an issue, Shillington saying the biggest problem for both sides may be the heat.

"It's going to be hot conditions - hopefully we'll have a good rotation among the front rowers," he said.

"We've got plenty of big guys," the Raiders skipper said.

He also pointed to the fact the Kiwis had named seven players from the NRL grand final, including the likes of Sam Kasiano, Frank Pritchard and Jesse Bromwich, as evidence of how tough the match would be.
