Australia Day to return to Leslie Park

THIS year the Australia Day celebrations will return to Leslie Park for a morning of fun in the sun.

Southern Downs councillor and head of the Australia Day committee Neil Meiklejohn said the festivities would start from 8am.

"There will be a range of community entertainment and a breakfast provided by the Warwick Lions Club," he said.

"The official program will begin at 10am with entertainment until midday."

The program will include citizenship ceremonies and regular citizen awards.

Cr Meiklejohn has been part of the Australia Day organising committee for 16 years and said it was hard to please everyone.

"On Australia Day some people want fireworks and others just want a quiet ceremony," he said.

"This year we though it would be best to do something similar to previous years with a breakfast and official ceremony, before letting people go off and celebrate the rest of the day however they would like to.

"With the day falling on a Tuesday it makes it more complicated for families but you have to adapt and make it work."
