Readers say Australia Day in the park will be great

THE decision to move Australia Day celebrations back to Warwick's CBD has been welcomed by Daily News readers.

Marg Wilkie from the Warwick Senior Citizens thanked people who signed the petition in favour of bringing the celebration back to Warwick.

"Thanks to the councillors who supported the move and voted accordingly," she wrote.

"It now allows people on motorised scooters the opportunity to join in the celebrations."

Mrs Wilkie was confident there would be some form of entertainment at the event.

"Regarding there being no entertainment, I am sure if the local bands, choirs and country and western music groups were approached they would willingly entertain as they have done in years gone by," she wrote.

"Come along to Leslie Park on January 26, 2016, armed with a choir, be proud to be an Australian and join in the celebrations."

Daily News reader finga questioned the council suggestion of having no entertainment or markets.

"Saturday was brilliant in the park with all the stalls etc," they wrote.

"Why does it cost money to get market stall holders into the park?"

Finga suggested a small fee be charged to stallholders.

"The accumulation of those fees would help pay for the entertainment such as face painting, animal nursery and the like," they wrote.

"Are they trying to make the celebrations, next year, to be bad so future years can be at Glengallan or what?

Sounds like it when they say no entertainment or markets."
