Australian hockey player a winner

ROB Pohlman is one of the Daily News/Warwick Credit Union Senior Sports Star monthly winners for 2017.

He will be honoured along with all the monthly winners at the annual awards function early next year.

Pohlman recently coached Corinthians to a Warwick ladies' grand final victory after earlier in the year winning a gold medal with the Australian over-60s team in the Trans Tasman Series against New Zealand.

He played centre forward and scored the only goal in the 1-0 win against New Zealand in the second game of the series.

The goal was significant as it gave Australia a series win through one victory and two draws.

Pohlman has played hockey in Warwick for 54 years, spending time in all four clubs during his career.

"I grew up with the Corinthians juniors and am now playing for the same club,” he said.

He has played for Queensland in masters hockey for the past 14 years and for Australia twice.
