Australian Rodeo Heritage Centre visit for Seven Hills kids
RODEO: Jorja Osmond was amazed to get the chance to rope a dummy calf when the year 5 and 6 students from Seven Hills State School visited the Australian Rodeo Heritage Centre this week.
One hundred and eight students from the school are staying at the YMCA Leslie Dam Camp this week and they all spent two hours at the Australian Rodeo Heritage Centre.
Seven Hills State School is only 5km from the centre of Brisbane so the visit to the country was a new experience for many of the students.
"It was great to look at the buckles and saddles,” Jorja said.
William Russell loved the chance to see young Warwick cowboys test their skills on the back of a bucking steer.
"Most of them got thrown off,” he said.
"It was a great experience at the heritage centre, I had never seen anything like this before.
"I was interested to see how the materials in rodeo gear had changed over time”
The children were each presented with a chocolate as they left the Australian Rodeo Heritage Centre to return by bus to Leslie Dam Camp.
The next major event at the Australia Rodeo Heritage Centre will be a mini family fun night and junior rodeo for Heritage Week on April 22 which will be open to the public.
The Australian Rodeo Heritage Centre in Alice St, opposite Queens Park, is open to the public on weekdays and demonstrations are arranged for groups like schools, community groups and bus tours. Information on 46618183.
