Australia's best given Queen's Birthday honours

FORMER bureaucrats, police officers, artists, business leaders and politicians were among those awarded for their service to Australian society in the Queen's Birthday Honours' list this year.

The list of nearly 600 high-achieving Australians honoured with various awards and commendations was released on Monday morning.

Among those honoured were philanthropist Ros Packer, Reserve Bank Governor Glenn Stevens and former New South Wales Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione.

The nation's former top bureaucrat Dr Ian Watt, indigenous leader and former Labor Party president Nyunggai Warren Mundine, Dr Neil Davey, who played a key role in the change from pounds and pence to decimal currency and former politicians Judi Moylan and Peter Lindsay were also honoured.

In cultural circles, singer Kate Cebrano, the Sydney Opera House's indigenous programming chief Rhonda Roberts, comedian Amanda Keller, singer and actor Frankie J Holden and art patron Danny Goldberg were also recognised.
