Authorities issue an update on Collegians footy fields

ONE of the Collegians footy fields has been deemed safe to play on, however a second field requires some work.

After inspections, air monitoring and soil testing, specialists working with the Queensland Department of Housing and Public Works have recommended no further action needs to be taken on oval two, on the river side of the clubhouse.

Oval one will have its grass removed and its soil will be raked and tilled before more inspections.

The site will be handed back to Southern Downs Regional Council and Collegians to undertake further works to prepare the fields for next year's playing season, once clearances are obtained.

It will remain fully fenced until all work is complete.

Collegians Junior Rugby League Club president Deb Scanlan said the council and club were working well together. "We're very much looking ahead and feeling positive about the 2019 season.,” she said. "Council is assisting the club in any way they can to ensure the fields are redressed and ready to be used as soon as possible.”
