Back in pink for McGrath Foundation T20 fundraiser
SATURDAY will be T20 cricket day on the Southern Downs with games at Allora and Slade Park.
No club cricket was scheduled for this weekend due to the possibility of Warwick playing in the Slade Shield final.
Now the final against Knox Shield winner St George has been postponed to the end of the season, the Warwick Cricket Association has scheduled a second T20 cricket game to raise funds for the McGrath Foundation.
In recent weeks, the Allora Cricket Club has made extensive plans for its day to assist the foundation. A women's game starts at noon and the Allora versus Allora Old Boys game is at 2pm Saturday.
Players from leading Condamine Cup teams have been invited to play and nomination fees will go to the McGrath Foundation. Organisers hope Mitchell Shield stars and noted big hitters John Cleary and Neil Cantwell will play.
A donation bucket will be located at Slade Park so that supporters and spectators can make a contribution to this great foundation. The names of players will be put into a secret ballot and two teams drawn.
All players, supporters and spectators are encouraged to wear a piece of pink clothing.
"Let's pink it up for a great cause," RSL Diggers player Col O'Brien said.
The Slade Park canteen will be open and a sausage sizzle will be put on after the game. Players to assemble at 1.30pm for a 2pm start.
Diggers' victory
IT was a Warwick win against Stanthorpe in the battle of the RSL clubs in T20 cricket on Friday night.
RSL Diggers (Warwick) scored 3-159 to beat the 86 of RSL Stanthorpe.
Mitch Siebenhausen, 39, Luke Cullen, 31, and Tony Burke, 21, were the best of the Diggers batsmen but it was guest player Michael Bourke who created fireworks with 61 off 37 balls.
With the ball for the winners, Tony Burke took 2-12 off three overs, Jamie Holmes 2-16, Luke Cullen 2-13 and Col O'Brien 1-8, all off four. Jamie Holmes and Mitch Siebenhausen had run outs.
