Backpacker dies in horror highway smash
UPDATE: One male backpacker has died and three others are seriously injured after an accident at Glen Aplin south of Stanthorpe this afternoon on the New England Highway.
It is understood the station wagon in which the backpackers were travelling turned into the path of an Ergon Energy truck while attempting to turn into a mushroom farm.
The three injured men, all in their twenties, have been flown by rescue helicopter to hospitals in Brisbane and on the Gold Coast. They have head, neck and chest injuries and are stable at this stage.
