Backs step up

ONE is in his 15th season of A-grade, the other his third but both will be "go to" backs for Wattles and Warwick in the local derby at Father Ranger Oval on Saturday night.

Russell McMillan might be in the No.1 jersey for Wattles against Warwick in A-grade on Saturday night but the reality is much of his attack will be aimed at the Warwick centres.

Centre Michael O'Keefe is in his third senior season after first playing in the top grade while still an under-18 player.

Russell came through the juniors with Wattles and played A-grade before linking with the Broncos to play colts during Super League.

He represented Queensland in under-age footy in an Origin curtain raiser.

O'Keefe is in the Toowoomba Clydesdales side and won an award for best back in his team in the 47th Battalion Carnival in Bundaberg this season.

Russell co-coaches the side with his brother Glen, a FOGS premiership-winning player with Wests in Brisbane in 2009.

"While fullback has always been Russell's best position, he reckons there is too much running there," Glen said.

Wattles will play Tim Hentschel and Justin Van Der Poel in the centres, while Garth Miller will partner O'Keefe in the Warwick centres with Hayden McNicol at fullback.
