Bag freebie at shopping centre

IN THE lead-up to the statewide ban on plastic bags, Rose City Shoppingworld will hand out free bags to customers.

As part of its awareness campaign, the shopping centre will be handing out reusable bags from June 26-30.

Marketing manager Louise de Lissa said they wanted customers to be aware of the changes coming in July.

"It will take some time for people to get used to the idea of having to bring their own bags,” she said.

Woolworths has already made the change, going plastic-free on Tuesday with the rest of the retailers committing on July 1.

Customers who spend $30 or more at a speciality shop will be entitled to pick up a free jute-style shopping bag. Bag collections stands will be at the escalators near the food court and outside of Coles.

Reusable bags will be available from individual retailers after July 1 at a cost.
