BALLANDEAN Football Club has welcomed state funding which will allow it to improve coaching standards.

The club has nabbed $4960 in the State Government's Get Going Clubs grants.

Ballandean FC president Neil Newman said this would allow him and director of coaching Anthony Rametta to undertake an intensive training course.

"There's two levels of coaching, there's a community coach which the majority of people in Stanthorpe have... and the senior licence,” he said.

"The senior licence becomes the first stage of a professional licence for those who want to coach at an NPL level or higher.

"Anthony and I just want to bring back a good degree of coaching to give back to the kids and the club itself.”

Newman said he and Rametta would be able to share crucial knowledge with the club.

"This will allow us to do an intense seven-day course down in Brisbane,” Newman said.

He said he was excited about the prospects of how this could benefit the future of the club.

"It's personal development, we're both keen on personally developing our skills as a coach, both skill-wise and managerial-wise, there's more to coaching than just running drills,” he said.

"It's (about) how to manage teams, how to identify the weaknesses of your game and then coming up with a training session to rectify those weaknesses.”

While Ballandean had a strong season this year, he hoped to up the ante.

"We got three of our four teams into the finals last year,” he said.

"We're really short on senior colts so we're hoping to get a senior colts side up and going again this year.”

Newman said they had no intention of "pinching” players from other sides, but hoped to encourage more people to take up the sport.

Rametta welcomed the opportunity to improve their coaching possibilities.

"I think for me personally it's a chance to go to the next level, really,” he said.

"It opens up a few options for us.”
