Man linked to Bandidos charged over hotel manager bashing

A MAN linked to the Brisbane chapter of the Bandidos bikie gang faced court yesterday, for allegedly bashing the bar manager of a Rockhampton hotel.

In Rockhampton Magistrates Court, Peter Sinclair, 39, appeared on charges of assault and unlawful possession of a weapon.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Joe Aboud told the court Sinclair had been living at The Pioneer Hotel on East St since November, when he moved to Rockhampton from Brisbane following threats to his welfare.

It is alleged Sinclair and his partner became involved in an argument at the hotel one night last week.

Sgt Aboud said the bar manager attempted to hide the woman and her two-year-old child in the hotel's bar to protect them from Sinclair.

Police allege Sinclair then assaulted the manager, causing them bodily harm.

The court heard police found a shortened rifle and a balaclava in Sinclair's bedside table.

Sgt Aboud said Sinclair had threatened to shoot the bar manager.

"The gun was locked, loaded and ready to go," the prosecutor said.

"All someone would have had to do is pull the trigger."

Sgt Aboud said on another occasion last week Sinclair also attacked a man at Glenmore McDonald's restaurant. He said the man was unknown to Sinclair and the assault was unprovoked.

"It is believed the defendant is an associate of the Bandidos Motorcycle Club in Brisbane and that he moved to Rockhampton as a result of threats made to his welfare," Sgt Aboud said.

An application for bail was opposed by police. Magistrate Barry Cosgrove refused bail and remanded Sinclair in custody until February 21.

"These are serious charges and the police have strong evidence," Mr Cosgrove said.
