Barbies by river to sizzle
A BARBECUE by the banks of the Condamine will soon be back on the menu, with the council set to replace the two devices damaged during the 2010/11 floods.
The new items will be installed once Southern Downs Regional council receives flood funding which has been approved for the region.
And there is no need to fear about the barbecues meeting the same fate as their predecessors.
A council spokeswoman said the new devices were low-voltage and could be removed quickly and without the need for an electrician in case of flooding.
As there is usually a warning before the banks of the river break, the barbecues will be able to be removed promptly should such a warning come.
It will also mean they are able to be removed for repair.
The spokeswoman added there were other barbecues in Warwick parks, including three in Leslie Park - one of which is not working -, one in Victoria Park and one in Mile End.
"The one in Leslie Park is scheduled to be replaced in the coming weeks," she said. "There are wood barbecues in other Warwick parks that will need to be replaced in coming budgets."
