Batsman going for bowled review bit of a laugh

HOWZAT with Michael Bourke

I HAD to laugh last week when Bangladesh batsman Souyma Sarkar was bowled, and then tried to review during the First Test in Galle against Sri Lanka.

Maybe Sarkar was wanting to see the damage that the ball did to off stump or was just having a moment.

Retirement week

THIS week we have seen the retirement of Aussie cricketers Adam Voges, Chris Hartley and Xavier Doherty.

Voges' batting improved dramatically at the back end of his career, Hartley was probably the best gloveman not to wear the baggy green and Doherty probably played more Test matches than he deserved on the back of a couple of handy one-day matches for the Aussies.

These retirements will bring more opportunities for other young cricketers like Queensland-based keeper Jimmy Pierson with the Hartley retirement.

Horse tip

MY horse tip for the Golden Slipper this Saturday is for the Garry Portelli-trained She Will Reign after the week of wet weather we have had.
