Batsmen set up easy shield win

BRILLIANT batting by Mitch Siebenhausen and Ryan Collins has secured Warwick a final spot in Davis Shield cricket this season.

Needing a win against Downlands at Mayhew Oval yesterday, Warwick bowled first and dismissed Downlands for 162, Connor Bachmann hitting 59.

With the ball, Carter Bilbrough bowled well for Warwick to take 3-23 off six overs and Luke Cullen finished with 2-16 off seven overs.

Kieran Bourke took the new ball and finished with 1-23 off 10 overs, an economical performance.

Captain Kris McLennan, Ryan Collins and Josh Ryan each took a wicket.

Chasing 163 for victory, Warwick batsman Ryan Collins belted 16 off the second over before batting partner Matthew Kiernan was dismissed with the score on 21.

In strode Siebenhausen and Warwick dominated for the rest of the game.

Siebenhausen finished with 82 not out, including 12 fours and three sixes while Collins hit 10 fours in an unbeaten 69.

McLennan put the win down to some strong bowling and one partnership.

"I was pleased with our bowling but we will have to improve again in the final against Lockyer on Sunday," he said.

"After the loss of an early wicket, Ryan and Mitch batted well together. It was good to have a left- and right-hand combination."

A feature of the match was a left-handed catch by Bilbrough in the slips.

McLennan took two catches, one a fine effort at mid wicket.

Warwick's finals charge will be led by its pace battery and the spin of Kev Poole.
