Batting control is key in reserve grade

CRICKET: Allora team organiser Aaron Vietheer is pretty confident going into the Warwick reserve-grade final against Sovereign at Mayhew Oval at 10am today.

"The key for Allora is to bat out the 40 overs. Gavan Scheiwe and Matthew Higgins will return to the team which played in the semi-final win against Sovereign a fortnight ago,” Vietheer said.

"Sean Bryson scored a recent century so is our batting trump card, along with Scheiwe.

"We haven't been batting too badly this season but are going to have to hold our catches to have any chance of winning.”

In the grand final last year, Allora went down to the other Allora team, Railway Hotel Rascals.

Vietheer said Sovereign paceman Caleb King was the biggest threat to his side.

"Luke Cullen and Tim Munro are two of the Sovereign batsmen we will need to dismiss early,” he said.

While Vietheer is the team organiser, Mick Goltz is the Allora captain.

Sovereign team organiser Laurie Wagner said he was confident going into the grand final.

"All the young boys are keen and awesome in the field,” he said.

"The strength of the team is in the bowling led by Caleb King, captain Cahal Davis, Mitch Hay and Robert Wagner.

"Luke Cullen is a handy all-rounder who has been a good addition to the team this season.

"Each week, Joe Wagner saves the team 20-30 runs with his speed in the field.”

Looking at Allora, Laurie said Nick Morris and Scheiwe were the two batsmen they needed to dismiss early.

Sovereign is seeking its first premiership since 2009-2010.
