Battle between A and reserve-grade teams from last season

CRICKET: Wheatvale will host Inglewood in the match of the week in Warwick cricket at Slade Park on Saturday.

Last season, Wheatvale finished fourth, one of the clubs lowest finishes in the past two decades.

The team has signed up more players graduating from juniors and with one of the best all rounders at the helm, Paul Cantwell, it is unlikely they will be knocked out two weeks before the grand final again.

Inglewood missed the grand final in reserve grade last season and team organiser Jeremy Ralph has spoken all season about the need to get more players on the field week in, week out.

This weekend, it is one team from last year's A-grade finals doing battle with one of the teams from the reserve-grade finals.

Redbacks beat Wheatvale to make the preliminary final in A grade last season and will play Sovereign, a team aiming to win a game after a winless season in 2016-2017.

In the other Saturday game, the two premiers from last year, A-grade premiers Warwick Hotel Colts and reserve-grade premiers Railway Hotel Rascals will meet at either the Queens Park Synthetic or Mayhew Oval.

A decision is still to be made whether the Warwick Cricket Association will resume cricket at Queens Park this weekend after major upgrading of the field at the end of the football season.

The Sunday game at Slade Park is between Maryvale Condamine and Allora.

In the first three weekends of the season, only some play was possible in one round but every game ended in a draw due to the rain. There was no cricket last weekend due to the rodeo.

There will be two rounds of fixtures. Some of the rounds already washed out will be replayed on the Saturdays of representative cricket.

With the Davis and Mitchell Shield competitions back to three teams, the first representative cricket won't be played until December which gives some of the new players time to impress the selectors. Warwick, Stanthorpe and Lockyer are playing Mitchell Shield with Warwick, Lockyer and Toowoomba in Davis Shield.
